Education and Background

Born in Denduluru Village, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, he comes from an agricultural family who believed in education and reform of society through giving it back. His journey into medical field began from Guntur medical college where he pursued his MBBS and went on to specialize in Cardiology. An alumnus of the illustrious AIIMS institute, New Delhi, Dr. Ramesh Babu did his M.D, D.M Cardiology under Prof. M.L.Bhatia with a goal to provide the best possible medical care to people from all sections of the society. To achieve this he chose to serve the people of Vijayawada and surrounding rural areas in spite of lucrative opportunities abroad.


Contribution to Medical Field

Dr. Ramesh Babu started Ramesh Hospitals in 1988 at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh beginning with a humble capacity of 10 beds .He went on to start the first digital Cath lab on the east coast of India (Kolkata to Chennai) in 1996 inaugurated by late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma the then presiding president of India. Earlier, people had to travel for more than 400 kms to get emergency cardiac procedures done and in the process many lives were lost over the years. After Ramesh Hospitals was established, many such cases could be saved. The contribution of Dr. Ramesh Babu to the field of medicine from Andhra Pradesh is immense considering the lives he saved by bringing the necessary technology and medical expertise within reach of common people.

Excellence in Health Care

Maintaining highest of the success rates (99.8%) throughout, he started a dedicated stroke Unit “Ram Kasturi Stroke unit”  for Heart & Brain stroke in 2011 which houses the 256 Slice CT Scan – one of the first few available in the country. Dr. Ramesh Babu further expanded the services by making Ramesh Hospitals a 580 bedded multi- speciality institute with a new state of art unit at Guntur launched by Hon’ble Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam in 2015 March. He also started a Transplant Centre there – the only one in Andhra Pradesh. Ever since the inception, Dr. Ramesh Babu has brought the best technology available in India to serve the people of Andhra Pradesh. His strong belief that every person has the right to right diagnosis and medical treatment in time has resulted in launch of satellite hospitals and 11 Telemedicine centres. These centers connect the patients in rural areas to the best available medical expertise within a short time using digital technology – more than 28 Lakh people are benefitted by this service.

Social Responsibility

Medical expertise to all sections of society, technology within reach of common man and preventive care through building awareness – have been the areas of primary focus for Dr. Ramesh Babu. He has to his credit many initiatives and awareness walks in lieu of bringing into public the importance of staying healthy through lifestyle changes and medical awareness. Dr. Ramesh Babu started the “Golden Hour” program in 1988, which educates and emphasizes the need to get medical assistance in the first hour of incidence of a stroke to minimize the damage caused. He conducted over 250 interactive sessions with the people in several print and digital media in order to facilitate this. Keeping in mind the welfare of the people, Dr. Ramesh Babu has provided free yoga sessions for his patients & families for the past 15 years. BLS training is one other initiative through which over 30,000 people from various colleges, schools and Organizations have been trained in Basic Life Support skills.

Dedication & Passion

Being available round the clock – 24hrs for the past 30 years in cases of emergency speaks of his immense dedication and zeal in giving the best of services to his patients. His passion for medical field brought him close to teaching and training a number of doctors through the DNB Programs accredited by IGNOU & National Board for DNB Courses. With meticulous research in Cardiology, he has been a part of many important medical studies, clinical trials and international journals. In appreciation for his contribution/excellence in medical field, internationally renowned institute SCAI (Society for Cardio Vascular Angiography and Interventions) conferred Dr. Ramesh Babu with Fellowship in 2013.
